Community Health Outreach Worker – Civil Engagement

The Deamer Group is proud to partner with Black Women for Wellness in their search for a Community Health Outreach Worker – Civil Engagement. This is a part-time opportunity. Our Civic Engagement initiatives support Voter Education with the goal of increasing the electoral and political power of Black women through voter education, registration, and outreach during and between elections. The Community Health Outreach Associate (CHOW), Civic Engagement serves as a trusted liaison between Black Women for Wellness (BWW) and the communities it serves by connecting individuals with political education, civic engagement opportunities, and community resources. This position supports outreach efforts that advance voter education, registration, and civic participation. The CHOW builds meaningful relationships with community members, promotes participation in BWW programs and campaigns, coordinates community events and educational activities that support voter education and civic engagement initiatives. This role requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and a passion for community organizing, political equity, and social justice. This position includes office-based work as well as regular community outreach, with evening and weekend hours required to support events, trainings, and community activities.

Role Responsibilities
  • Represent Black Women for Wellness at community events, coalition meetings, educational workshops, and public outreach activities wearing BWW attire.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with community members, neighborhood organizations, faith-based institutions, and local stakeholders.
  • Conduct outreach to increase awareness of BWW programs, voter education initiatives, civic engagement campaigns, and available community resources.
  • Encourage participation in civic engagement, voter education, leadership development, and advocacy opportunities.
  • Support community mobilization efforts and assist with neighborhood canvassing, outreach events, and community conversations.
  • Support voter education, voter registration, Get Out the Vote (GOTV), and issue-based civic engagement campaigns.
  • Educate community members about civic participation, public policy issues, and available voter resources using nonpartisan practices.
  • Assist with phone banking, canvassing, community outreach, and volunteer engagement activities.
  • Utilize online organizing tools, digital platforms, and social media to increase community engagement and awareness.
  • Strengthen BWW's participation in local, regional, and national civic engagement initiatives.
  • Develop and strengthen partnerships with community organizations, schools, advocacy groups, and local institutions.
  • Participate in coalition meetings and collaborative community initiatives that advance BWW's mission.
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for the organization in community settings.
  • Collect outreach data, participant information, and community feedback in accordance with organizational procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, referrals, attendance, and community engagement metrics.
  • Submit weekly activity reports, monthly reports, and other required program documentation.
  • Assist with preparation of outreach materials, presentations, and educational resources.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant community outreach or organizing experience. Experience with voter engagement, civic education, or political organizing preferred.
  • Must be capable of working effectively with diverse communities of color and identities, families, and historically underserved communities.
  • Experience in community outreach, community organizing, canvassing, health education, civic engagement, advocacy, or nonprofit programming.
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, and communication skills.
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and professionalism in community settings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and basic data entry systems.
  • Ability to use social media and online organizing tools for outreach and engagement.
  • Valid California driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel throughout San Joaquin County.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and engage in community outreach activities for extended periods.
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent experience.
