Position: Forensic Interviewer

Reports to the Forensic Interviewer Program Director

General Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Forensic Interviewer Program Director, the Forensic Interviewer has the primary responsibility of conducting forensic interviews. This position will travel between MRCCAC offices in Midland, Andrews, and Big Spring.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Use established protocol to conduct forensic interviews with children or adults with disabilities who are alleged victims of abuse, neglect, or witnesses to violence.
  • Participate in collaborative meetings with investigative partners and non-offending caregivers.
  • Assist in identifying client needs and provide recommendations to investigators and advocates.
  • Work closely with family advocates and make necessary recommendations regarding needed follow-up for the child(ren) and the family.
  • Document case information and outcomes in the case tracking system database.
  • Identify and maintain a list of cases that meet pre-determined criteria for multi-disciplinary team case review meetings.
  • Attend and participate in multi-disciplinary team case review meetings in Midland, Andrews, and Howard counties.
  • Serve as a liaison between multi-disciplinary partners such as law enforcement, District Attorneys, County Attorneys, Department of Family and Protective Services, Midland Memorial Hospital, MRCCAC therapists, and other community partner agencies.
  • Testify in criminal, juvenile, and civil court when subpoenaed.
  • Attend various meetings and in-services, professional training and conferences as approved by the Forensic Interviewer Program Director or Executive Director.
  • Keep abreast of new research and developments in the field of forensic interviewing and maintain continuing education requirements.
  • Schedule forensic interviews as needed.
  • Participate in the 24-hour on-call rotation for emergency after-hours interviews in Midland, Andrews, and Howard counties.
  • Participate in after-hours fundraising and community awareness events as needed.
  • Participate in improved collaboration efforts with community agencies.
  • Participate in and provide training to staff and volunteers, partner agencies, and the community in various areas regarding child sexual and physical abuse in coordination with the Program Director and the Development and Education Directors.
  • Assist in any other job-related duties as required or requested by the Program Director or Executive Director, as needed.

Education Requirements:

This position requires a bachelors degree or associate degree in the field of social work, psychology, or criminal justice as it relates to the mission and objectives of the Midland Rape Crisis and Children’s Advocacy Center. Education and qualifications may be substituted with at least 1 year of experience in the human services, child welfare, or social work field(s).

Qualifications:

  • An understanding of child development, child sexual abuse, and forensic linguistics.
  • An understanding of the law, legal systems, and implications related to interviewing children and adults with disabilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working with diverse professionals from child protection, law enforcement, court systems, and community-related services or organizations.
  • Experience with conducting or providing needs assessments to victims and families, and an understanding of identifying needs to make appropriate referrals.
  • An ability to effectively organize a variety of tasks, and work effectively with a variety of people from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • An ability to work with all victims of sexual and/or physical assault, sexual and/or physical abuse, incest, and/or witnesses to violence without bias or prejudice regarding prostitution, abortion, substance abuse, difference in abilities, age, race, creed, sexual orientation, or religious affiliation.
