Job Description

Ophthalmic Photographer Position Overview

Are you looking for a role where you can do meaningful work, grow professionally, and enjoy coming to work each day? Do you value patient-centered care, modern technology, and a collaborative clinical environment?

We are a large, premier retina specialty group that has grown significantly and is hiring to support clinic coverage, patient volume, and long-term growth. We are seeking a team-oriented Ophthalmic Photographer to join our team. This role provides a unique opportunity to provide highly specialized diagnostic imaging while being supported by a robust clinical infrastructure. We value candidates who are dependable, flexible, coachable, patient-focused, and eager to learn.

Location

This position supports our high-volume clinics in Tennessee (with primary hiring focuses in Nashville, Franklin, and Cookeville ). Because we operate multiple regional clinics to serve our patient base, this role requires travel to different clinic locations up to 1–2 days per week depending on staffing and patient needs. We prioritize candidates living within approximately a 25-mile radius of their primary clinic.

Organization Overview

Our practice is committed to delivering the highest standard of comprehensive subspecialty eye care through experienced leadership, advanced clinical workflows, and cutting-edge technology. Our environment is energetic, fast-paced, and highly collaborative.

We place a strong emphasis on communication, professional development, and clinical excellence. We believe in investing in our people; therefore, we provide structured training and fully support and fund our clinical staff in pursuing professional ophthalmic certifications.

What You'll Be Working On
  • Performing highly specialized diagnostic imaging and vision assessments in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Utilizing state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to deliver expert outcomes, including OCT, Optos, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography, visual fields, and B-scans .
  • Assisting with hands-on clinical patient care, patient prep, and detailed clinical documentation.
  • Supporting clinical workflows for our retina specialists and working alongside ophthalmologists and an experienced tech team.
  • Traveling to local clinic branches (1–2 days per week) to ensure seamless regional patient care.
  • Contributing to a practice culture that values flexibility, dependability, and a patient-first mindset.
Qualifications
  • Experience Tiers Welcome: We are open to three tiers of candidates —ranging from entry-level/trainable individuals to extensively experienced, certified professionals.

    • Tier 1 (Entry-Level): Trainable candidates with a strong background in customer service, phlebotomy, or broader patient-facing healthcare who possess a strong willingness to learn.
    • Tier 2 (Intermediate): Experienced ophthalmic/optical assistants looking to specialize directly in retina imaging.
    • Tier 3 (Certified/Advanced): Fully experienced Ophthalmic Photographers with active certifications (e.g., CRA, COA, COT, COMT ).
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive and remain flexible in a high-volume, dynamic clinical setting.
  • Genuinely comfortable with regional day travel requirements (1–2 days per week).
  • Availability to work standard day shifts ( Monday through Friday , typically starting around 7:00–7:30 AM) and open to occasional quarterly Saturday clinics.
What's In It For You
  • Competitive Compensation: Tiered hourly pay scale from $21.00 – $30.00 per hour , precisely calibrated to your experience level and certification status.
  • Sign-On Bonus: $2,000 sign-on bonus paid after 6 months of continuous employment.
  • Certification Support: We fully pay for eligible employees to obtain and maintain professional certifications—a major pathway for career and financial growth.
  • Premium Saturday Pay: Additional premium compensation is available for participating in quarterly Saturday clinics.
  • Travel Compensation: Mileage reimbursement is provided for travel over 15 miles/15 minutes from your main clinic.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Full health package including Cigna Medical (Base, Mid, or Buy-Up options), Sun Life Dental and Vision, HSA/HRA employer contributions ($30/mo HSA or up to $3,500/yr HRA), matching $100k Employer-Paid Life/AD&D, and voluntary Short-Term/Long-Term Disability.
