Coalition Technologies is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Remote BigCommerce Developer to build, customize, optimize, and maintain high-performing eCommerce websites on the BigCommerce platform. This role is ideal for a developer with strong experience in BigCommerce Stencil, custom theme development, Storefront APIs, GraphQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive front-end development.

We are looking for talented and diligent candidates who perform well on our skills assessments. Strong skills test performance may be considered even if a candidate does not meet every preferred experience or educational background requirement.

BigCommerce Development Responsibilities

As a BigCommerce Developer, your duties will include:

  • Building custom BigCommerce widgets and reusable front-end components to improve site functionality and user experience
  • Developing interactive, dynamic, and data-driven features using BigCommerce's Storefront GraphQL API
  • Developing and customizing eCommerce websites on the BigCommerce platform
  • Creating custom BigCommerce themes using the Stencil framework
  • Working with Stencil, Handlebars, front matter, Storefront APIs, and Stencil util-APIs
  • Migrating websites from other eCommerce platforms to BigCommerce
  • Extending BigCommerce functionality through APIs, custom development, and platform-supported solutions
  • Integrating third-party apps and BigCommerce-supported applications
  • Setting up payment integrations, shipping methods, taxes, and other eCommerce configurations
  • Optimizing BigCommerce websites for page speed, performance, SEO, and conversion rate optimization
  • Upgrading BigCommerce sites from Blueprint to the Stencil framework
  • Converting complex PSD layouts into pixel-perfect HTML5/CSS3 templates
  • Creating responsive, cross-browser-compatible website designs
  • Working with version control systems such as Git or SVN
  • Managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines at the same time
  • Producing high-quality work with strong attention to detail
  • Communicating regularly with team leads, project managers, designers, and other developers to align on project goals, timelines, and deliverables
  • Taking initiative by suggesting improvements, sharing feedback, and identifying opportunities to improve workflows and project outcomes
Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in BigCommerce website development
  • Strong knowledge of the BigCommerce platform
  • Experience creating custom widgets and reusable front-end components within BigCommerce
  • Proficiency with BigCommerce's Storefront GraphQL API
  • Expertise in BigCommerce theme development and customization
  • Expert-level knowledge of the BigCommerce Stencil framework, including Handlebars and front matter
  • Experience working with Storefront APIs and Stencil util-APIs
  • Expertise in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and ECMAScript 5/6
  • Experience with JavaScript libraries such as jQuery
  • Strong understanding of responsive web design techniques
  • Thorough understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues
  • Understanding of W3C web standards, semantic HTML, and accessibility guidelines
  • Strong attention to detail and a highly organized work style
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and tasks at the same time
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines

  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills

  • Availability to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time

Preferred Skills

The following experience is preferred but not required:

  • BigCommerce certification
  • Experience with WordPress, Magento, and Shopify
  • Experience with ReactJS or AngularJS
  • Proficiency in PHP, MySQL, and AJAX
  • Experience with SEO and CRO best practices for eCommerce websites

Compensation

For candidates located in California, New York, Washington, and Colorado , the starting base pay for this position ranges from $17 to $35 per hour. Compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, skills test performance, geographic location, and seniority of the position offered. For candidates outside of California, New York, Washington, and Colorado, compensation may fall outside the listed range.
