As Safety Manager you will report to the Regional Safety Director and will work closely with the project leadership team to make sure that all safety rules and regulations are being followed according to job specifications and that they comply with OSHA standards. ResponsibilitiesDevelopment of site specific safety programsDirect and oversee the day-to-day activities of multiple site safety coordinatorsMaintains ongoing training and mentoring of the site safety coordinators and ensures they have what they need to carry out their responsibilities to:Establish and conduct jobsite orientation for every new employee for the project and administer and record their participation in the orientation program and issue identification to those employees completing the orientation program.Attend all initial meetings with the Project Staff and Subcontractor representatives to clearly define their role within the confines of the Project Safety Program.Establish and conduct regular (weekly) safety meetings with project staff. Ensure and maintain a log of each toolbox safety meeting held with their employees.Review each Subcontractors Safety Program and ensure that it meets or exceeds the project Safety Program requirements.Conduct regular (daily) jobsite and work area inspections.Conduct daily job briefings and pre-shift safety training.Conduct formal weekly jobsite inspections and complete the safety checklist noting safety violations and corrective actions.Record, notify and prepare written report of any violations or unsafe practices to direct hire employees or Subcontractors for immediate correction actions. Stop at once any violation or unsafe practice. Assist Project Superintendent in establishing and implementing safety procedures including evacuation and fire control procedures.Investigate all incidents and generate proper reportsEstablish and maintain all required job safety recordsConduct a monthly overview safety meetingAssist the Claims Manager in the management of claimsAttend Project Staff Meetings to brief the staff on safety issues on the project and coming from the company and to keep informed of the progress of the jobQualificationsBachelor’s degree or four-year equivalent degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Health, science, or related field preferred but not required5+ years’ experience in heavy civil construction, preferably in a management role responsible for the actions of other safety professionals on siteWorking knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniquesCapable of identifying known/potential exposures and recommending corrective actionsComputer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite programsStrong management, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writingCurrent and up to date safety training to include: OSHA 30-hour in Construction, NYC DOB SST 62-hour, NYC DOB 40-hour Site Safety Manager Course, SSPC/AMPP C-3/C-5 Competent Person Lead Removal, NYS DOL Asbestos Inspector License, MTA NYCT Track Training Certification, among othersPrevious MTA experience requiredAdditional Benefits offered by OHLA USA:Medical, Dental, & Vision InsuranceShort- and Long-Term Disability & Life Insurance401(k) retirement plan with employer matchingTuition Reimbursement after 1 year of employmentPersonal Time Off Program (PTO)Engaging work environmentAnd much more!!
