Behavior Specialist

Location: Happiness House-Canandaigua site

Pay Range: $33,000 - $42,600 per year

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a part time/school year position (22.5 hours per week). Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during business hours - flexible hours based on program needs. Evening work may be required as job duties demand. This position follows the school calendar with vacations coinciding with school breaks. Summer 6-week session is included in school year employment.

 

Summary/Objective: The Behavior Specialist working for Happiness House will work collaboratively with the Director of Evaluations and the Children’s Program Director to perform duties as described below. The Behavior Specialist will work to build rapport with the Preschool Staff so appropriate services are being provided by staff on site. In addition to performing the essential functions of the Behavior Specialist position, other training opportunities may arise due to the need for staff training across all affiliated agencies.

 

Required Education and Experience

1. NYS Certification as a Licensed Behavior Analyst/Board Certified Behavior Analyst
2. Three years experience, preferably working with young children with developmental disabilities and their families.
3. Experience in early childhood development and family intervention preferred
4. Knowledge of available community resources, including typical preschool programs.
5. Valid NYS driver’s license

 

Essential Functions:

1. Imparts agency philosophy of “Equal Opportunity, Independence and Realization of Individual Potential” to children, families, program staff, and community resources.
2. Possess in-depth knowledge of A.B.A. concepts, practices, techniques, and is fluent at providing each in a school setting to help support challenging behaviors within individual classroom and common school environments.
3. Maintains confidentiality of information relating to individuals and their families in accordance with agency policy.
4. Provides consultation, in-service, and training to teachers, clinicians, and other staff members as needed.
5. Collaborates with the classroom teachers and staff to conduct functional behavior assessment, as well as the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans required by agency guidelines and New York State regulations for behavioral concerns.
6. Meets on a regular scheduled basis with classroom staff, including general education and special education teachers, to discuss students, behavior documentation/plans, and overall IEP goals.
7. Provides consultation and direct observation to all classrooms on a regular basis.
8. Designs behavior programs as needed for individual children.
9. Oversees implementation of behavior management programs and behavioral philosophy throughout programs.
10. Collaborates with agency specialists to support programming and educational needs of students and staff across agency sites.
11. Provides support and consultation to staff as needed through training of staff, preparation of materials, and facilitating the implementation of individualized and/or classroom-wide behavioral programming.
12. Provides support and consultation to parents as needed to address developmental milestones and behavioral strategies that may be applicable for the home environment.
13. Meets regularly with Director of Evaluations and Children’s Program Director(s) to discuss child, family, classroom, and department concerns, needs, and strengths.
14. Attends CPSE meetings as needed in consultation with Director of Evaluations and Children’s Program Director
15. Attends Human Right Committee meetings as needed for Children’s or other agency needs
16. Supervises student interns and volunteers when appropriate.
17. Participates in conferences, workshops, and in-service training as needed or recommended to enhance job skills and personal growth and development.
18. Adheres to Agency’s policies and procedures as well as department guidelines.
19. Performs other duties at the discretion of the Director of Evaluations, Children’s Program Director, or designee.

Supervisory Responsibility: Oversight of Teachers and Staff in regards to Behavior plans and implementation.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand; bend, stoop; walk, run; use hands to carry; and reach with hands and arms. The employee will be working with children with behavioral overreactions and possible unsafe behaviors and therefore must be able to handle these situations. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 40 pounds.

 

Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day but employee will be expected to work at any of our partner agencies. Some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for successful applicants. It may be modified in the future. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, internal equity, and location.
